Gunmen disguised in police uniform raided a house in southern Baghdad early Thursday, killing three family members and kidnapping another, police said.

"Four police vehicles with armed men posing as policemen raided a house early before dawn in Baghdad's al-Jadida district, killing the father of the family, two of his sons and kidnapping another," police officer Captain Ahmed Abdullah told Xinhua.Earlier

Thursday, Abdullah said four bodyguards of the female minister of immigration Suhaiyla Abed Jaafar were killed and two others wounded when gunmen ambushed their vehicle in the Iraqi capital."Unidentified gunmen opened fire at a vehicle carrying six bodyguards of the Immigration Minister this morning on the al- Qanat Street in Baghdad, killing four of them and wounding two others," Abdullah said.

Meanwhile, an Iraqi police colonel was shot dead and his driver wounded as he was heading to work near Baquba, northeast of Baghdad, the police said."Col. Fadhel Mahmoud, an officer in Diyala provincial police headquarters was shot dead by unknown gunmen in an area located between Baquba and Kanaan, some 50 km northeast of Baghdad," an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

Insurgents frequently target Iraq's fledgling security forces and government employees in an attempt to cripple the Shiite- dominated government formed in late April.
